The web site myAker.net has since early 2008 provided regular news and features items about Aker Solutions and other companies owned by Aker. As a consequence of the reorganisation of Aker ASA last year, myAker.net will no longer be updated on a regular basis. This window and link to the web site will therefore be removed during the summer of 2010.

The investment fund Aker Capital Fund changes name to Converto Capital Fund AS.
Converto Capital Management is exclusive investment advisor to Converto Capital Fund. The fund is leading shareholder in the listed companies Aker Seafood (65.8%), Aker Floating Production (76.2%), Aker Philadelphia Shipyard (50.3%), Bjørge (indirectly 39.9%), American Shipping Company (19.9%).

Concrete opportunities

Aker Solutions is a world leader in the design, construction and installation of marine concrete structures. Now, as a result of ongoing work and incoming tenders, the concrete team is further ramping up its activities. "We are looking for new colleagues in Norway, with a combination of technical and management skills, and team spirit," says senior manager Jan-Diederik Advocaat.

Aker in Ghana - Minister seeks offshore license termination.

In a letter to Aker, Ghana’s Minister of Energy asserts that the company’s offshore exploration and development license in Ghana is invalid. Aker does not see any foundation for such an assertion.

New responsibilities for Stubholt

Aker Barents to shore

The Aker Barents drilling rig is in the week ending January 24 expected to arrive at the yard in Ølen on the west coast of Norway,. The rig will remain at Ølen for four to six weeks for repair work and equipment installation.

The Gjøa platform takes shape

In the days between Christmas and New Year, Aker Solutions successfully carried out a major marine operation on the Gjøa platform, under construction by Aker Solutions, as the deck and hull of the platform were mated together outside the yard at Stord. “I am impressed by this operation,” said Kjetel Rokseth Digre, Statoil’s project manager. Meet giant Ivan – the world’s largest tower crane

Projects and activities in Aker Solutions often have huge dimensions. As a result, the company requires tools of a certain size. This weekend, Ivan, the world’s largest tower crane, was made ready for new lifting operations at the Stord yard in Norway. The 1000 tonnes, 130 metre crane is a key contributor to the Frigg decommissioning, together with his Aker Solutions co-workers.

In order to preserve the Atlantic Forest in Brazil, Aker Solutions is supporting a reforestation programme, where the company’s customers and partners have a key importance.

Industrial solution in Philadelphia

American Shipping Company ASA (AMSC) and Aker Philadelphia Shipyard ASA (AKPS) have reached an agreement with Overseas Shipholding Group (OSG) which dismisses the current arbitration and settles all outstanding commercial disputes between the companies. The agreement enables both AMSC and AKPS to complete the twelve vessel build series with OSG.

Carbon capture featured on BBC

The BBC Hardtalk series features interviews with business and political leaders. In December, the interview is with Nick Horler, CEO of ScottishPower, which is working closely with Aker Clean Carbon to develop full-scale carbon capture solutions in the UK.

Aker BioMarine has signed a long-term global supply agreement with Valensa International for the use of Superba(TM) in Krill Oil Joint Health and Eye Health products where Aker BioMarine will be the exclusive supplier of krill oil.

New subsea facility in Egersund

Aker Solutions has opened a new subsea facility at its yard in Egersund, west Norway. The new subsea hall will add another capacity to the yard and help further develop Aker Solutions’ leading position within subsea processing technologies.

IFA high on the EWC agenda

Status for the implementation of the International Framework Agreement was on the agenda for Aker‘s European Works Councils (EWC) meeting in November 2009. Implementing the Agreement in Aker Solutions has been give priority so far, and the EWC said the process had been satisfactory so far.

Encouraging results from Scotland

Test results from Aker Clean Carbon‘s mobile test unit for CO2 capture at a coal fired power station in Scotland show significant reductions in energy demands. "These are encouraging results that show we are moving in the right direction," says Jan Roger Bjerkestrand, CEO of Aker Clean Carbon.

On Tuesday 10 November Aker Solutions in Kristiansand hosted a meeting with Norway’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Trond Giske, and the NODE companies of Southern Norway. Brandsrud new CFO in Aker ASA

Trond Brandsrud has been appointed Chief Financial Officer of Aker ASA. He begins as Aker’s CFO as soon as he completes his pre-departure service period with his current employer, and no later than 1 May 2010. Mr. Brandsrud joins Aker from a similar position with the exchange listed drilling company Seadrill ASA.

Mercola selects Superba

Mercola Group in the USA has selected the biotechnology company Aker BioMarine as its exclusive supplier of krill oil for its Mercola Advanced Nutrition Antarctic Pure Krill Oil products. The agreement provides entry into an important distribution channel for dietary supplements in the United States.

Superba sales soar in Q3

Aker BioMarine continued to advance in the third quarter of 2009, with strong Superba™ Krill sales growth and improved cash flow from operations. Sales of Superba™ Krill in third quarter was 16.8 metric tons (MT) which is 236 percent higher than second quarter.

Superba is MegaRed in the US

Increased production boosts results

Aker Seafoods produced a significantly higher proportion of fresh products at its plants in Norway during the third quarter of 2009 compared with the same period of 2008. The operations in France and Denmark increased their sales of fresh products.

Ambassador visits Dhirubhai-1

The Norwegian ambassador Ann Ollestad in October visited India‘s first offshore oil and gas field, where Aker Floating Production‘s FPSO Dhirubhai-1 is operating, and where Aker Solutions provided the complete subsea production system.

Xmas tree no 100 for Troll

An extraordinary general meeting in Det norske oljeselskap on Monday October 19 approved the merger with Aker Exploration. Maria Moræus Hanssen from Aker ASA and Tore Lilloe-Olsen from DNO International (bildet) represented the two biggest shareholders in Det norske.

Aker purchases Det norske-shares from DNO International

Aker has today signed an agreement regarding two purchasing transactions of together six million shares in Det norske oljeselskap ASA from DNO International. After a potential completion of both transactions, Aker’s ownership in Det norske increases to 32.6 per cent. If the shareholders in Aker Exploration and Det norske approve of the proposed merger between the two companies, Aker will hold 40.5 per cent of the combined company.

Rising star from Aker Solutions

Aker Solutions is currently in the final stages of developing the concept for a new hybrid riser system for use at deep water fields in harsh environments. Such risers are proven as cost effective for deepwater fields in West Africa and the Gulf of Mexico. The main challenge is to adapt the systems for harsh environments.

Aker Capital Fund, HitecVision and Camar together want to strengthen and further develop the technology company Bjørge ASA. This will take place in the form of a joint ownership company, Bokn Invest AS, which aims to acquire 100 per cent of the shares in Bjørge.

Aker cargo flying high

Planespotters in south western Norway had a day to remember in early September when one of the biggest civilian transport aircraft, the Antonov AN 124, landed at Sola airport. The cargo that was loaded on board nearly matched the aircraft for size, as it picked up a 31 tonnes generator belonging to one of the biggest drilling rigs in the world, the Aker Spitsbergen.

Gjøa headed for Stord

Aker on the silver screen

Shell and National Grid join Scottish Power and Aker

Shell and National Grid are joining Aker Clean Carbon, Aker Solutions and ScottishPower’s carbon capture and storage (CCS) consortium, as the companies set out to deliver the UK’s first commercial size CCS system operating from a coal-fired power station by 2014.

Exclusive Superba agreement in the US

The biotechnology company Aker BioMarine has signed an agreement to be the exclusive supplier of the company’s Superba Krill Oil dietary supplement to the market leader Schiff Nutrition International. The agreement is a major breakthrough for Aker BioMarine in the US market.

Aker Exploration takes Aker Barents on contract

The oil company Aker Exploration this weekend took delivery of Aker Barents, the world’s biggest and most advanced drilling rig. The new H-6 rig is designed to operate in tough environments and at water depths of 3000 metres, and will be drilling for oil and gas on the Norwegian continental shelf.
